Vote of $1,605 recommended, since after the paying of this sum, there will still be a saving of $1,963, consequent on the closing of the Normal School.
The Committee consider the proposed increase to the pay of Police-Constables, Sergeants, and 3rd Class Inspectors, and recommend that their pay be increased as suggested by Captain DEANE in his Memorandum forwarded in the Secretary of State's Despatch No. 120 of 25th June 1883, and which the Secretary of State has stated he is prepared to sanction, on the understanding that they subscribe to certain conditions as to term of service for pension, and as to remittances to England.
The Committee consider an application from the Coroner (Mr. WODEHOUSE) relative to
his chair allowance.
The Committee decide that the former decision of the Finance Committee should not be disturbed, viz: that the $288 to be allowed to the Coroner and Superintendent of the Fire Brigade for Chair allowance, which is a new allowance not hitherto enjoyed by either of these Officers, should be divided between the two Offices.
The Committee consider the Report of the Surveyor General on the subject of the old Protestant Cemetery near Kennedy Road, and recommend that the matter be allowed to stand over in order that the Surveyor General may give some explanations.
